Practical Guide to Telepathy (Part 2 of 4)
How to Recognize Incoming Messages
Recap:
As we described in Part 1 of this guide, you are already receiving telepathic messages from a variety of sources. The challenge now is in recognizing when you receive a message, identifying the source, and translating the message into something meaningful.
Our aim in Part 2 of this guide is to help you recognize when you receive a message, which is the hardest part when you are starting the awakening process – but a critical skill for you to advance.
How Telepathic Messages are Sent:
Telepathic messages arrive in a few different ways. Sometimes you receive a full “download” of information, and other times it might be more like a back-and-forth dialogue.
These transmissions generally fall into three categories:
General Broadcasting – like walking around with a boombox. Your frequency is always “on,” even if you don’t realize it. Most people can’t read it clearly yet, but guides and higher-dimensional beings can. As a result, humanity’s collective field is very noisy because nearly everyone is unconsciously broadcasting.
Focused Broadcasts – like a podcast or public speech. Instead of background noise, you intentionally direct a message toward a group or field. This makes your frequency stand out, much like a microphone in a crowded room.
Direct Transmissions – like a phone call. Real-time dialogue between beings, which is what most people imagine when they think of telepathy, even though it’s less common than the first two forms.
Telepathy Consists of “Information Downloads”:
Before we can go deeper, we must explain a bit more about how telepathic messages are sent.
Here’s the key: telepathy is not linear. In 3D, you exchange words one after another in a sequence, whereas in telepathy, you exchange information packets that can contain and deliver a vast amount of data instantaneously.
Think of it like this:
Verbal sentence = one line
Picture = a thousand words
Telepathic packet = a whole book delivered instantly
Because your conscious mind works linearly, it can’t process the whole “book” at once. Instead, it unpacks the packet slowly into thoughts, impressions, and feelings. That’s why telepathy often feels like a mix of emotions, sensations, and thought-forms rather than a single “voice in your head.”
How to recognize when you receive a message:
Now that we’ve established that information downloads occur instantaneously, the necessary step is to recognize when you’ve received a message, so that you can eventually translate the message into something meaningful. Receiving an email is an effective analogy to grasp this:
Think about the process of receiving, opening, and reading an email. When you receive an email, it is a form of information downloaded to your inbox. What is the process for accessing the information?
You receive an alert or a notification that you received an email.
You check your phone or computer to see who sent it and what the subject line is. This tells you if the email is for you and gives you an idea of the significance of the message.
You decide to open the email and give it a read. You spend a few minutes digesting the information before deciding how to respond. Maybe you reply, flag it for future reference, or mark it as spam and delete it.
This is the exact same delivery style for telepathic communication:
When you receive or are exposed to a telepathic message, you perceive a signal that a message was received.
When you perceive the notification signal, you can choose to look at the origin of the message by checking the frequency (sender) and resonance (subject line).
From there, you can examine the message and unpack it with your conscious mind (open the email and read it).
The diagram below indicates how you are currently receiving the ‘signal’ or ‘notification’ that a message has been received:
Instead of a phone chime or email ping, your “notification” shows up through your body and awareness. The signal often arrives in one of four ways:
Emotional – a sudden shift in mood (a wave of peace, a flash of sadness, a spark of excitement).
Energetic – an intuitive sense or “knowing” that something has landed in your field.
Somatic – physical sensations like tingles, pressure, warmth, or a flutter in your stomach.
Thought-Form – a new idea or inner dialogue that feels slightly different from your usual thought-stream.
How to become more effective at recognizing incoming messages:
Now that you are aware of what signals accompany incoming messages, you are ready to start recognizing them… Right?
Unfortunately, wrong.
Most people miss telepathic messages because of noise: the constant chatter of their own mind, emotions, and environment.
Think of it like blasting music through your headphones while standing in a crowded room. Someone might be whispering something important to you, but you’ll never hear it because it is drowned out. Telepathy often arrives as that whisper.
To build awareness, ask yourself how ready you are to spot these signals:
Emotional – Is your emotional state steady enough that you notice when it suddenly shifts?
Energetic – Do you maintain enough presence to catch subtle changes in the “feel” of your environment?
Somatic – Are you calm enough to sense tingles, pressure, or other subtle body cues?
Thought-Form – Is your mind quiet enough to register a new thought-stream, or is it buried in constant chatter and distraction?
Although telepathic messages are subtle, you don’t need to live like a monk to notice them. That said, you do need practices that let you create a quiet space when needed. Just like you can’t hear a whisper at a concert, you won’t notice a snowflake falling in the middle of a rainstorm.
If you consciously create space through mindfulness, grounding, or simply paying attention, you’ll be capable of recognizing more signals. That recognition is the first step toward translating and understanding them.
Who Should You Listen To?
When you first begin noticing telepathic input, it can be tempting to look everywhere for validation. While external sources may provide perspective, the only voices you should trust for confirmation and direction are:
Your Higher Self
Your higher self is the truest expression of who you are — the part of you that exists beyond the veil. When you incarnate, you are a focused extension of that greater being. Your higher self holds your contracts, agreements, and life plan. They are the “keeper of your free will” and the most reliable source of guidance because they are literally you, unclouded by distortion. The work of awakening is to embody this connection more fully, so that your daily self and higher self are in harmony.Your Guides
Alongside your higher self, you have a team of guides. Contrary to popular belief and ‘new age’ mysticism, they are not vague, mystical beings. They are real, highly skilled counterparts who support your path from outside the veil. Some are permanent, walking with you across lifetimes, while others rotate in to help with specific missions or challenges. They have diverse roles:Emotional and energetic support.
Tactical or strategic insight.
Coordination with other beings beyond the veil.
Think of them as colleagues and friends you’ve worked with before, because that’s exactly who they are. They know your purpose, and their role is to help you succeed.
(Author’s Note: Between your higher self and your guides, you already have all the information and resources you need. That’s why my goal is not to be a teacher you depend on, but a partner who helps you reconnect with those inner and higher connections. Your task is to learn to trust yourself and your team because they are the most direct and aligned voices for your journey.)
Intentionally Connecting with Your Guides:
Telepathy is a skill, and like any skill, it improves with practice. At first, you will likely doubt yourself or feel like you’re “making it up.” That’s normal. Think of these protocols as training wheels — they help you build trust and competence until you can ride on your own.
This protocol is effective in learning to establish telepathic dialogue with your guides:
Step 1: Connect with Intent
Find a quiet spot with minimal distractions.
Take a few deep breaths, releasing any mental clutter.
Set your intent clearly (in your mind or out loud):
“I am requesting a connection with my guides.”
“I would like to practice telepathy.”
“I ask that this connection be only with aligned beings who serve my highest good.”
Intent is your security protocol. If your intent is clear, the channel aligns accordingly.
Step 2: Open a Dialogue
Your conscious mind will translate everything into thought-forms, which means the dialogue often sounds like “you talking to yourself.” To bypass overthinking, use imagination as a bridge. Let yourself imagine what the other being would say, which helps open the door for them to communicate. When you do this, they can more effectively ‘steer your thoughts.’
In the early stages of practice, flow is more important than accuracy. If you try to overanalyze in the moment, you will interrupt the dialogue and create more distortion. Trust that the connection is real, even if the ‘words’ might not be fully accurate. That accuracy will come later when you are more skilled.
You can use this sequence:
Say: “Hello, am I connected with one of my guides?”
Pause and allow whatever reply arises. Don’t force it or overthink it. If you get stuck, imagine what the response would be, because your imagination can open the door.
Ask simple, low-pressure questions like “How are you?” or “What’s something I should focus on today?”
Notice tone and energy: does it feel calmer, clearer, or different from your usual thoughts? That shift is the signature of connection.
Keep it short. A few exchanges are plenty for early practice.
Step 3: Close the Connection
End the conversation deliberately. Thank your guide, ask if there’s one next step you should take, and imagine the line closing (like hanging up a call). This prevents bleed-over and helps you feel in control.
Troubleshooting:
Doubt:
It’s important to remember that at first, it might feel like you are making it all up. That is natural, because as we’ve already established, telepathic dialogue often sounds exactly like your own thoughts. Keep practicing and working on recognizing the frequency/feel of the other’s ‘voice’, even if it feels like you are just talking to yourself. As you get more practice, you will get better at recognizing the energy signature of other beings vs. your own thoughts. Once you get more comfortable, you will realize how ridiculously easy and subtle it is, which is why it can be so confusing when you are just getting started.
Drawing a blank:
If you draw a blank, that is not a bad thing, and it doesn’t mean that you are failing. Sometimes when you receive ‘static’ in your mind, it isn’t because you are losing the connection; it often occurs because your conscious mind has no frame of reference to decode the message. When this happens, it usually means more context is required (learning or experience).
“Lack of Foreign Answers”:
Telepathy works with what is already in your mind. Currently, we are unable to obtain a completely foreign answer. You won’t suddenly receive full equations if you don’t know math. Messages always filter through what’s already in your awareness. So if you draw a blank, sometimes that is because you don’t have the pre-requisite ‘building blocks’ in your mind to translate the message.
Distortion:
Part 3 of this guide will explore reducing distortion, but keep in mind that if you want an answer badly, you’ll unconsciously steer the dialogue toward it. This is why many people believe they are talking to “Jesus” or believe in a past life they incarnated as famous people – because their expectations shape the responses they receive. Imagine it like you are playing a game of Ouija, where your hands and your guide’s hands are on the board. Your guide is trying to move the placard to the letter “A”, but you really want the letter “S”. Your desire to get “S” will overpower your guide, and you will steer it to the “S”. That is the nature of telepathy, because you are ultimately able to control the creation of your thought forms. Mindfulness, specifically reducing ego and releasing expectations, is an absolutely critical skill to be effective at telepathy.
Mini-Protocol for Quick Access:
This protocol is effective for quick access when you don’t feel like dedicating a full ‘session’ for connection:
Take 3 breaths.
Say: “Guides, I’m open to a message.”
Wait 60 seconds.
Note: What shifted? Emotion, body, thought, or subtle sense?
You can apply this protocol anywhere, and it is good practice to begin connecting while you are ‘out and about’. Once you become more proficient, you will find you can connect anytime without any special preparations. Although it’s subtle at the start, once you get the hang of it, you’ll find it’s surprisingly easy to connect.
What comes next?
Spend time practicing engaging in direct dialogue with other beings, starting with your guides and higher self.
If you feel up to it, you can also try to connect with deceased loved ones who are close to you (if they are available – this doesn’t always work). The latter can be helpful in recognizing energetic signatures and frequencies. Follow your intuition and what feels right, without setting expectations.
Part 2 of this guide was recognition, which is the foundation.
Part 3 explores discernment, which becomes your safeguard.
Part 3 of this guide will help you become more effective at using discernment in your decoding and interpreting of telepathic messages. This is an essential skill to ensure you are receiving information that is accurate and relevant for your situation, and to recognize and counter ‘interference’ attempts.
